Sharifeh Mohammadi, Labour Activist, Sentenced to Death<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Islamic Regime has sentenced labour activist Sharifeh Mohammadi to death after subjecting her to various forms of torture and fabricating charges against her in its sham court in Rasht. She has been convicted of “baghi” (rebellion), a charge frequently used by the regime to establish fear in the society. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly used vague accusations such as “Baghi,” “Moharebeh” (waging war against God), and “corruption on earth” to suppress political, social, and civil activists, as well as ordinary citizens protesting the regime. However, this marks the first time that a labour rights activist has been sentenced to death under this charge.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In recent months, the Islamic Regime of Iran has sentenced seven Kurdish religious prisoners to death on similar charges, executing six of them so far. At least fifteen other political prisoners are at risk of execution under this accusation.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Sharifeh Mohammadi has been sentenced to death at a time when Khamenei, the head of the ruling criminal gang in Iran, was begging people to participate in the regime\u2019s sham elections to restore its lost legitimacy. He sought a public mandate to continue his repression and crimes. However, an overwhelming majority of the people rejected the regime by boycotting the last two elections, striking fear into the heart of Khamenei and his entire establishment.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Islamic Republic, in an attempt to counteract its own growing fear, is resorting to spreading terror among the people\u2014hoping to intimidate society, push back opposition, and project an image of power. However, these brutal tactics have lost their effectiveness. Instead of instilling fear, they have only strengthened the people’s determination to dismantle this tyrannical regime and its repressive apparatus.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

By sentencing Sharifeh Mohammadi to death on charges of “Baghi”, the Islamic Regime sends a clear message to the society\u2014especially to the working class and other oppressed sectors\u2014that they must submit to oppression and exploitation without resistance.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Iranian Political Prisoners Association (in Exile) strongly condemns the death sentence of Sharifeh Mohammadi, along with that of fifteen other prisoners linked to the revolutionary movement of Woman Life Freedom<\/em>, including Reza Rasaei and Mahmoud Mehrabi.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Islamic Republic of Iran must be pressured to overturn these death sentences and halt its executions of political prisoners.<\/p>\n
