Rally to protest arrest of workers, teachers and students at International Workers’ Day march

Following a call by the workers’ union of the Tehran Bus Company on May 1, International Workers’ Day, a large crowd of workers, teachers, students, and other hard workers gathered in front of the regime’s parliament on Wednesday, May 11. Not long after the rally, the police force, dressed in uniforms of government mercenaries, violently and brutally attacked the rally, beating and injuring a number of protesters and arresting at least 40. During the protests of the families of those arrested, they were released, but a number of workers, students, teachers, and their supporters are still in detention.

The Iranian Political Prisoners Association (in exile) strongly condemns the attack on the May Day celebrations and the beating and arrest of a number of protesters, and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all those arrested on May 11, as well as all political and social activists and political prisoners from the prisons of the Islamic Republic. The Association, together with leftist parties and organizations, will participate in a rally to be held in Stockholm’s central square (Sargelstorget) on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, in protest against the continued arrest of workers, teachers, and students, and calls on all freedom-loving Iranians to participate in this protest rally.
