The judiciary of the Islamic Republic’s execution machine, announced that two political prisoners, Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani Eslamloo were executed on the morning of Sunday, 27 July 2025, on charges of membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.

These two were executed, like thousands of other political prisoners whom the criminal regime of the Islamic Republic killed in prison with false claims and false accusations in unfair trials, without going through legal procedures. In a number of cases they forced them to confess to crimes they never committed.

Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani Eslamloo were sentenced to death in August 2024 by a verdict of Iman Afshari, head of Branch 26 of the “Tehran Islamic Revolution Courthouse,” on charges of “rebellion, war, corruption on earth, membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization, collection of classified information, and gathering and colluding against national security.”

According to the Islamic Republic’s judiciary, these two political prisoners “were making hand-held launchers and mortars and were causing damage and casualties to citizens, homes, service and administrative facilities, educational and charity centers with careless projectiles.”

The courts of the Islamic Republic, which are more than just courts, are the ones issuing death sentences and carrying out charges that the interrogators of the Islamic Republic’s intelligence services dictate to them based on the Islamic Republic’s policy of repression and murder.

The Islamic Republic’s regime, as it has throughout its shameful life, murdered these two to instill fear in society and in the hearts of the people. The Islamic Republic has based on its criminal policies, sentenced forty other political prisoners to death including Sharifeh Mohammadi, Varisheh Moradi, Pakhshan Azizi, Milad Armoon, Alireza Kafaei, Amir Mohammad Khosh-ekhbal, Navid Najjaran, Hossein Nemati, Alireza Mordasi, Yaqoob Derakhshan, Alireza Bermarzpournak, Abbas and Habib Daris, and six protesters of the Revolutionary Movement of Women, Life, Freedom known as the “Ekbatan Case”. Their lives are at risk and could be executed at any moment.

Association of Iranian Political Prisoners (in exile) strongly condemns the execution of Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani Eslamloo and calls on the freedom-loving people of Iran and who are against death penalty, to raise their voices against this inhuman penalty. The execution is state murder and must be stopped immediately.
