Raisian, the lawyer for Sharifeh Mohammadi, who is imprisoned in Rasht’s Lakan Prison, announced that the labor activist’s death sentence has been commuted to a one-year prison sentence. Raisian added: “Fortunately, the risk of a catastrophe has been eliminated for now, but we are still pursuing the retrial or the application of Article 477 to overturn her conviction and acquit her of the rebellion charge.”
.
Sharifeh Mohammadi was arrested on December 4, 1402, at her home in Rasht on charges of “propaganda activities against the regime” and sentenced to death on July 4, 1403, at the Rasht Islamic Revolution Courthouse on charges of rebellion.
.
This labor activist was transferred to Sanandaj Prison for interrogation on January 11, 1402. The Ministry of Intelligence interrogators pressured and tortured him to extract a forced confession, so much so that after he returned from interrogation to the Sanandaj Prison ward, according to his fellow inmates, the effects of torture were clearly visible on his body and face.
.
Branch 39 of the regime’s Supreme Court overturned Sharifeh Mohammadi’s death sentence on October 12, 1403, and her case was sent back to the same court for retrial. A few months later, on February 24 of the same year, Branch 2 of the Rasht Islamic Revolution Courthouse sentenced the labor activist to death again.
.
Despite all the remaining flaws in the case, Branch 39 of the regime’s Supreme Court, which had previously overturned the death sentence, finally upheld that sentence on August 15, 1404.
.
The judge considered his membership in the labor organization “Coordinating Committee for Helping to Create Labor Organizations,” which dates back more than a decade, to be an example of this charge.
